What Makes a Great Nation

A nation is great, when its citizens are free to be their best.  A nation is great when it frees its people to think freely, move freely, speak freely, and live freely.

The pillars of a great nation require restraint.

The foundations of a great nation is trust.

Trust amongst the citizenry, its leaders, communities, and entrepreneurs.  A national culture based on the Golden Rule and the Silver Rule.  Treat others the way you want to be treated, and don’t do unto others what you don’t want done to you.  A nation built on respect for education, hard work, love of family and friends, deference for the elderly, and care for the young.

A nation built on the simplicity and clarity of the rule of law.  Strong private property rights.  Limited government with restraint.  A tax system that is minimal and fair.  A currency that cannot be inflated or diluted.

A nation built on a free market, that rewards risk takers and entrepreneurs.  A merit based society that rewards those with ability, intelligence, creativity, conscientiousness and vigor.  Where the citizenry are allowed to do business and work, with who they want, when they want, and where they want.

A compassionate society that allows private charities to flourish without the restriction or competition from government.

An accountable society where your reputation matters, your promises matter and your words matter.

A judicious society where laws are fair and even, regardless of wealth, race, ethnicity, sex or age.

A society which abhors compassion or charity by force.

A nation is great when its individuals have the freedom to pursue their dreams.  Where individuals are allowed to succeed, and fail.

A nation is great when individuals are free to create their own opportunity, and to reap the sweet rewards of success and drink of the bitter juice of failure.

A nation is great when the individual is free to be an individual.
