Precept #2 – Life is an Adventure

You find yourself in a mysterious world.  The sapiens around you are recent acquaintances.  Your mission unknown.  Your adventure lies ahead…

Your tool is the physical capacity of your mind and body.  Your mission, be the best version of yourself and complete your adventure.

Imagine being dropped in a place unknown.  You are given a random land vehicle.  The direction to travel and why you are here remains a mystery.  You meet other sojourners along the way.  You create alliances, friendships and families.

How your vehicle functions is yet to be determined.  No instruction manual was provided.  You marvel at its engineering beauty.  You discover its functions and abilities, weaknesses, limitations and surprising quirks.

Your identity often gets conflated.  The vehicle, you.  You, the vehicle.

It’s a source of happiness, pleasure and pain.   You learn to maintain, strengthen and modify its functionality.  It’s an amazing sensory communication medium, ideally designed to explore this strange world.

It’s best not to judge it or be too critical.  Think of it as an apparatus for exploration.  Its maintenance and durability is critical for your survival.  You will need it’s services for the length of your journey.

Life is an Adventure…

First mission, “Be The Best Version of Yourself”.  Consider the implications of the phrase.  The “Best”.  “Version”.  “Yourself”.  It denotes the highest standard.  There’s a connotation of variability in expression.  There’s a judgemental and comparison aspect to the phrase.

The modifier word “you(r)” is important.  It distinguishes judging yourself in comparison to others vs. comparing yourself to you yesterday.  Be the better version of yourself.  It’s impossible to be anyone else but you.

The tree can only be a tree.  A lion can only be a lion.  You can only be the best version of you.

We are born under remarkable circumstances.  We have our individual skills and limitations.  We are unique in the combination of our physicality, gender, race, nationality, ethnicity, family, geography, culture and epoch.

It is unfair to compare yourself with others.  It is as unreasonable as comparing a lion to a tree.  Everyone is uniquely placed in their own path.  Their own mission.  Their own adventure.

You are the star of your movie.  You are the hero of this blockbuster film, titled YOUR LIFE.  Live your adventure and be the hero.

It can be a long journey, or it may end abruptly.  Play the long game.

Wherever you are, is exactly where you are supposed to be.  It will lead you to the final chapter of your mission.

Be brave.  Be courageous.  Be prepared.

It may take a lifetime of development.  However big or small.  Regardless of the opinions of others, they are but supporting actors in your film.  This adventure is your destiny.  The next 5 years are the most important years of your life.

You must own it.

Life is an adventure.  Your mission is straight ahead….
