We have smart people on both sides of the aisle. Half the pundits say the shutting down of all commerce for 30 days is justified. The other half say otherwise.
I have heard people I respect say the Covid19 is not a normal flu virus and something to be taken very seriously. The other half say it’s a flu variant, and we should be cautious but live a normal life.
When I hear the medical experts interviewed, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, they all seem to agree that young and healthy people are basically spared from the effects of this virus, and that you’ll experience a slight cold to flu like symptoms. The biggest fear being that they’ll be a carrier and infect the old and/or sick with pre-existing conditions.
Yes, some young and healthy adults will have severe conditions. And yes.. Many of the elderly, severely sick will survive and live; many without any medical attention, simply nursing themselves at home. And yes, some will come out of this with some lung scarring and lingering conditions… All this is possible.
Given our known facts, why are we choosing to self-inflict trillions of dollars of economic damage? Why are we choosing to give up our freedoms?
About 2% of the cases will die. This number can actually be much lower, if we new the real numerator in this equation. But based on our current tests, it appears to be about 2%.
The natural death rate in our population is about 0.8% annually. If we overlap 2% over 0.8%, things don’t look too bad.
As of today, I believe the total wordwide deaths from the Covid19 is 15,000 and 350,000 cases.. I’ve also heard estimates that the economic damage has been approximately $1Trillion globally. That’s a cost of about $66Million per death and $2.8Million per case.
We could’ve asked all elderly and the sick to quarantine. Everyone else, self-choosing to act in their best interest. We could’ve provided quarantined hotels, campuses and hospitals specifically for the vulnerable population, and then released them after 60 days in scheduled “batches”. This would give the general population time to build “herd” immunity.
This would’ve avoided the insane amount of dollar printing, socialization and central direction of the government, that’s happening now. Our liberties wouldn’t be eroded. Businesses wouldn’t be asked to self-destruct. We wouldn’t be having runs at the super market…
Tort legislation and reform could eliminate the risk of Covid19 lawsuits, so that sporting events, entertainment and other group events could resume as normal.
